Chicago Mayor Johnson Hiring Based on Race ~ Not Capabilities
Robin Biro claims the Kamala Harris rallies were packed with a lot of "razzle dazzle". Meanwhile Trump focuses on the security of this nation, a consequence of an exhaustive pace, most around him cannot match. Robin & I agree that it's not beneficial to be hiring based on race. We agree that hiring based on talent, performance and capability is key. DOJ now looking into the Mayor's actions. Did Johnson violate the 1964 Civil Rights Act?

Bianca de la Garza: President Trump wants a major investigation into those celebrities who made appearances and stumped for Kamala Harris in the election in 2024. Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, Oprah Winfrey, bono, he writes on true social that some of them were illegally paid. Adding candidates are not allowed to do this. So records do show production companies were paid for.
As some of this, but not for endorsements. According to campaign filings, Oprah's Harpo Productions got $1 million for producing a rally in Detroit. Beyonce's company, which is run by her mother, Tina Knowles, paid 165,000 in Bruce Springsteen's company, [00:02:00] $75,000 for travel and event work after performing in Georgia.
And again, these payments appear to be for services. Non endorsements. Campaign finance experts say nothing here breaks the rules. But obviously there is a bending of the rules when we know it comes to some of the way the lefts play. Let's bring in the host of the GrassRoots TruthCast podcast, Gene Valentino and Democratic strategist, former Obama campaign director Robin Biro.
Guys, great to have you with us.
Robin Biro: Great to be with you, Bianca.
Bianca de la Garza: Alright, so maybe these, you know, are sort of gray areas or are not technically, uh, because they're companies, but we also remember Al Sharpton, um, did a pretty cozy interview with Kamala Harris. And he, his foundation was paid. There's questions about when the media gets involved, so should there be a, a closer look at all of this when it comes to celebrities?
Robin, I'm gonna start with you on the left because Kamala Harris obviously leaned on some of this celebrity sort of glow to bolster her campaign. She was inserted very late.
Robin Biro: Yes, uh, she was inserted late. Uh, and this [00:03:00] is nothing new for the Democratic party. Celebrities typically line up, uh, lock, stock and barrel to fall over themselves and, and support my party's candidates of the Democratic Party.
Uh, and, and we welcome that, but I. You know, this time it really was to no avail. Uh, but I do wanna push back on the false narrative that, you know, her rallies were dwindling and we needed to bolster support by bringing in a-listers celebrity, A-listers. I was there at her rallies even when there wasn't, uh, some celebrity, her rallies were packed down the street.
Uh, so I, you know, in some cases, I don't think this really did her any good at all. Bianca
Bianca de la Garza: Mm. Might have just been a strategy thing. I know at one point, yeah, they rented out in Las Vegas, the sphere and put her face on it. You know, that's why they were kind of, you know, losing so much money when the, the tab came because, uh, they were paying for a lot of razzle dazzle there.
Maybe Robin, she could have still packed the house, but I guess they were throwing everything at it. And that's what campaigns do. But when you have, uh, question, questions that President Trump is raising, Gene, I don't think he's going to let up on [00:04:00] this.
Gene Valentino: No, I don't think so. I think, um, the issues, uh, with Kamala Harris will pale in comparison to the Autopen issue, which I believe will surface once the poor man gets off his, um, high speed turbo charged or.
Rally of events, promotions, trade deals, deals with aircraft companies, and uh, uh, the dome and everything else you just reported. Uh, the man has been focusing on what's important for this nation, the security of this nation, and I hope and pray that come the midterms, the public Democrat or Republican will look through the glaze of confusion and see who's gotten something done for him or her.
Bianca de la Garza: Yeah, well, I mean, the celebrities are definitely, you know, uh, living a different universe in most everyday, you know, Americans, I wanna get to this, we we're short on time, but it's a fascinating story because the Justice Department guys is [00:05:00] launching an investigation into, uh, the Democratic mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson.
They're accusing him of racial bias in hiring choices. But here is Mayor Johnson talking about who is in his administration. Let's play this.
Mayor Brandon Johnson: Some detractors that will push back on me and say, you know, the only thing that mayor talk the mayor talks about is the hiring of black people. No, what I'm saying is when you hire our people, we always look out for everybody else.
We are the most Generous people on the planet.
Bianca de la Garza: What do you make of those comments, um, Robin, to you as a Democrat? Um, does that sit with you? Uh,
Robin Biro: no, I did watch the whole interview though. Uh, and and what are you saying basically is that, uh. They welcome in everybody as family. And you know, I've experienced that myself.
That's really just democratic politics to, to begin with. But I suspect my friends on the right do the same thing. Um, but I don't think that serves anybody any benefit, Bianca, to hire based off of race or, or [00:06:00] identity politics? Not in this day and age.
Bianca de la Garza: Right, exactly. Best person for the job. Um, especially if they're doing things like flying planes or lately, you know, air traffic controllers, which is another whole story.
But Brandon Johnson obviously a moment there went viral. He has a right to his opinion, but if the Justice Department is looking at Tobias, maybe he shouldn't be sharing it so freely. To you, Gene. Sorry.
Gene Valentino: Oh, uh, yeah, well, I couldn't agree more. He's, uh, potentially violated the, uh, civil Rights Act of 1964, which will be looked into, and I agree with bro, uh, Byron on this one.
Uh, that Robin, excuse me. Uh, that the, the, when I was county commissioner for eight years, we, um, we had, uh, similar issues. But, uh, DEI was not present. It was always ch choosing someone based on performance and capability in the best interests of the people. Yeah, that's right. And so when you hear this kind of talk, regardless of how [00:07:00] innocent and um, uh, spirited it was, um, it, it doesn't ring well to the public when you come off looking like you're promoting and a certain race of people.
Yeah,
Bianca de la Garza: we will see where that goes. Rob and Gene, great to have you both with us. Thank you so much. Appreciate you and your time today guys. Thanks Bianca. Thank you. Thank you.
